This year’s numbers are in. Last year year we were up to +0.68 °C above the 1951 to 1980 average, which is commonly used as a baseline. This year, we are another 0.19 °C above that, up to +.0.87 °C. At this rate, we will make our maximum-hoped-for limit of +2 °C not by the end of the century, not by 2050, but in about 6 years; by 2022.
Note that these are *surface* temperatures. Since the oceans are absorbing huge amounts of heat (because water holds much more heat than air), air temperatures are much lower that they would be without the oceans.
